Latest news on Lancashire CCC, covering the Red Rose, County Championship, T20 Blast, Emirates Old Trafford and Lancashire Cricket news.
Lancashire County Cricket Club, known as "the Red Rose", is one of English cricket's most successful and historic counties, based at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The club competes in the County Championship, T20 Blast and One-Day Cup, fielding both men's and women's teams under the Lancashire Lightning and Lancashire Thunder banners. With a rich honours list spanning multiple formats, Lancashire remains a major force in domestic cricket.
The club continues to invest heavily in playing talent and infrastructure, committing significant funds to new contracts and facility upgrades. Its long-serving stars, including veteran fast bowler James Anderson, share the dressing room with emerging talent and overseas signings brought in to strengthen title challenges across formats. The men's side is aiming to return to the top tier of the County Championship, while the women's team continues to build on recent domestic success.
Beyond the professional game, Lancashire Cricket invests in grassroots development through its dedicated cricket foundation, widening access to the sport for young people and communities across the county. New training facilities, including expanded indoor and outdoor venues, aim to support players of all ages and abilities throughout the year, reflecting the club's ambition to grow the game well beyond matchday fixtures at Old Trafford.
Emirates Old Trafford itself carries deep historical significance, having hosted Ashes Tests, World Cup matches and countless memorable encounters over more than a century. The ground's evolution from a traditional county pitch into a modern, multi-format stadium mirrors the wider transformation of English cricket, balancing tradition with the demands of shorter, fast-paced formats like T20 cricket.
Rivalries remain central to Lancashire's identity, none more so than the historic "Roses" fixtures against Yorkshire, which continue to draw strong interest across both red and white-ball formats. Financial pressures within county cricket, debates over fixture scheduling and the sport's evolving structure remain ongoing topics of discussion among supporters and administrators alike.
