Glamorgan County Cricket Club, known to supporters as the Dragons, is the only first-class county side representing Wales. Based at Sophia Gardens on the banks of the River Taff in Cardiff, the club also stages fixtures at The Gnoll in Neath. The Dragons have earned promotion into the top flight of the County Championship in recent seasons after a long spell in the second tier. They have also lifted the One-Day Cup more than once in the last few years, ending a lengthy wait for a trophy. Glamorgan's players regularly turn out for Welsh Fire in The Hundred, giving the county a presence in England's shortest domestic format too.

Sophia Gardens has grown from a modest county ground into an international venue, hosting Ashes Test matches against Australia and drawing crowds for major one-day and T20 fixtures. The stadium sits alongside the National Cricket Centre, which supports grassroots participation through schemes such as All Stars and Dynamos. Cricket Wales uses the site to widen access to the sport for young people and disabled players across the country.

Founded in 1888 and admitted to first-class status in 1921, Glamorgan have won the County Championship three times, in 1948, 1969 and 1997. Wilf Wooller, Tony Lewis and Matthew Maynard each captained the county to those titles, while overseas stars from Viv Richards to Waqar Younis have worn the blue and yellow over the decades. The county also holds a unique piece of cricket history, having hosted the first instance of a batter hitting six sixes in a single over during a match at Swansea in 1968.
