SIDS News
Latest news on SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), sometimes known as 'cot death' – the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an apparently healthy baby. It is the leading cause of death in infants aged one month to one year. SIDS is most likely to occur between the ages of two and six months. There are no specific causes of SIDS, but it is believed to be associated with a combination of factors, including sleep position, sleeping on soft surfaces, exposure to tobacco smoke, and overheating. SIDS is a preventable death, and parents can reduce the risk of SIDS by following a few simple guidelines, including placing infants on their backs to sleep, using a firm sleep surface, and keeping soft objects and loose bedding out of the sleep area.
