Latest news on NBA Playoffs (also written N.B.A. Playoffs or NBA play-offs), covering the playoff bracket, schedule, scores, series results, standings, play-in tournament, conference finals, NBA Finals, Finals MVP, injury reports, title odds, upsets and championship contenders.

The NBA Playoffs are the knockout postseason that decides the league champion. Sixteen teams, eight from each of the Eastern and Western Conferences, face off in four rounds of best-of-seven series. These are the first round, the conference semi-finals, the conference finals and the NBA Finals. The Finals winner receives the Larry O'Brien Trophy, while the Finals MVP is awarded the Bill Russell Trophy.

The top six teams in each conference qualify directly on regular-season record. Teams finishing seventh to tenth enter the play-in tournament, which decides the final two seeds in each bracket. Used since 2021 and made permanent in 2022, it is modelled on the Page-McIntyre system. In the NBA Finals, the team with the better record hosts Games 1, 2, 5 and 7 under a 2-2-1-1-1 pattern.

Each postseason brings fresh storylines: injuries to star players, rotation changes, surprise upsets and debate over who the title favourites are. The play-in remains a talking point, with critics warning that contenders can be exposed to one bad night and supporters saying it keeps the regular season meaningful. Load management, the practice of resting healthy stars, also draws scrutiny from league officials, coaches and fans. Injury reports and series previews often shape the news cycle before every game.

The playoffs are where reputations are made and fans remember their greatest nights. Examples include Cleveland's 2016 recovery from 3-1 down in the Finals, the only such comeback in Finals history, and the Toronto Raptors' 2019 title, the first won by a team based outside the United States. The conference finals MVP trophies carry the names of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, whose rivalry is part of the league's lore. From watch parties to victory parades, title runs shape the mood of entire cities and communities.

The competition traces back to the 1947 Basketball Association of America finals, when the Philadelphia Warriors beat the Chicago Stags. The BAA merged with the National Basketball League in 1949 to form the NBA. The playoff field grew from 12 to 16 teams in 1984, and the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers lead the all-time list with titles in the high teens. Celtics centre Bill Russell won 11 championships, an NBA record.
