About our UEFA Europa Conference League News
Latest news on the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL), a yearly football competition organised by UEFA for eligible European football clubs. It is the third tier of active European club football competitions, and teams qualify based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions.
The competition was first held in the 2021-22 season, with the winners awarded a position in the Europa League the following season, unless they qualify for the Champions League. The competition primarily consists of teams from lower-ranked UEFA member associations.
Roma won the first competition, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the final. The competition was created to give clubs from lower-ranked UEFA member countries a chance to progress beyond their customary elimination from the Champions League and Europa League. UEFA officially announced the competition on 2 December 2018, and it was launched as part of the 2021-24 three-year competition cycle.
