About our Burton Albion news
Latest news on Burton Albion, the Brewers, including League One fixtures, results, transfers, manager updates and life at the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton Albion Football Club, nicknamed the Brewers, represent the town of Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire and play their football in League One, the third tier of the English game. The club calls the Pirelli Stadium home, a 6,912 capacity ground named after the tyre manufacturer whose factory stands nearby. Since 2024, majority ownership has rested with Nordic Football Group, a consortium of Scandinavian investors who bought the club from long serving chairman Ben Robinson. The takeover marked one of the most significant moments in the club's history, bringing fresh investment while pledging to protect its community roots.
Head coach Gary Bowyer leads the first team, having steered Burton clear of relegation trouble after taking charge and earning a contract extension along the way. The Brewers compete each season in the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the EFL Trophy alongside their League One programme, and have a habit of springing surprises against higher ranked opposition. Supporters keep a close eye on fixture releases, pre season friendlies and transfer activity as the squad is refreshed between campaigns. Under new ownership, the club continues to balance ambitious investment with the sustainable, community focused model that defined its rise through the divisions.
The Brewers nickname nods to Burton upon Trent's centuries old brewing industry, once among the largest in the world and still part of the town's identity. Each pre season, Burton Albion take part in the Bass Charity Vase, a long running local trophy that raises money for good causes in the area. Ben Robinson's near fifty year association with the club, latterly as honorary chairman, remains a defining thread in its story, alongside the work of the Burton Albion Community Trust in schools and neighbourhoods across the region. Travelling support has long been a source of pride, exemplified by a record away following at Old Trafford during a famous FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
Burton Albion were founded in 1950, inheriting a footballing lineage in the town that stretches back to earlier clubs including Burton Swifts and Burton United. Decades in non league football preceded promotion to the Football League in 2009, after winning the Conference title under manager Nigel Clough. Clough later guided the Brewers to a first ever promotion into the Championship in 2016, a rise that brought local derbies with the likes of Derby County, Port Vale, Notts County, Chesterfield and Walsall. That underdog journey from amateur football to the second tier of English football remains central to how the club is regarded by supporters and rivals alike.
From League One fixtures and results to transfer news, managerial updates and boardroom developments under Nordic Football Group ownership, Burton Albion's story keeps evolving both on and off the pitch. Staying across the latest headlines helps supporters keep pace with a club that prides itself on punching above its weight.
