    About our Michelle Mone news

Latest news on Michelle Mone, Baroness Mone of Mayfair, a Scottish businesswoman and Conservative life peer linked to the company PPE Medpro.

In 2020, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) awarded two contracts valued at £203 million to supply PPE to the NHS during the pandemic. These contracts were allocated through a 'VIP lane' intended to expedite PPE offers for companies with political connections.

A November 2021 Freedom of Information request revealed that Baroness Mone personally recommended PPE Medpro Ltd to the government.

Initially, Baroness Mone denied any involvement with the company beyond her recommendation. However, a 2022 report by The Guardian disclosed that an offshore trust, in which Mone and her adult children are beneficiaries, had received £29 million in profits from PPE Medpro.

On December 6, 2022, Mone's spokeswoman announced her temporary leave of absence from the House of Lords, stating it was to 'clear her name of the allegations that have been unjustly levelled against her'.

In November 2023, Mone publicly acknowledged her involvement with PPE Medpro. She later admitted to lying to the press, asserting that she did so to 'protect my family', emphasising that it was 'not a crime', during an interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg a month later.
