South Carolina is considered a red state. In the federal government, South Carolina is represented by two U.S. Senators and seven U.S. Representatives. Both Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott are Republican. Of the seven Representatives, six are Republican and one is a Democrat. South Carolina has a Republican governor, Henry McMaster, who was reelected in 2022. The state legislature is also controlled by the Republicans, who have majorities in both chambers.
