North Carolina is considered a swing state. In the federal government, North Carolina is represented by two U.S. Senators and fourteen U.S. Representatives. Both Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis are Republican. Of the fourteen Representatives, seven are Republicans and seven are Democrats. North Carolina has a Democrat governor, Roy Cooper, who was reelected in 2022. The state legislature is also controlled by the Republicans, who have majorities in both chambers.
