The SNP, which was founded in 1934, supports and campaigns for Scottish independence from the United Kingdom. In the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections the SNP secured a fourth consecutive term in government, and in the 2024 UK General Election the SNP won 9 out of the 57 Scottish seats in the House of Commons at Westminster. The current leader of the SNP is John Swinney who replaced Humza Yousaf after he resigned in 2024.
