About our Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) news

Latest news on the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP), a public body established in November 2021 under the Environment Act 2021. Its mission is to protect and improve the environment by holding government and other public authorities accountable for their actions in England and Northern Ireland, and for reserved matters across the UK. The OEP has the power to scrutinise Environmental Improvement Plans and targets, scrutinise environmental law, advise government on environmental law, and enforce compliance with environmental law. The goal of the OEP is to make the greatest contribution to environmental protection and the improvement of the natural environment, including protecting people from the effects of human activity on the environment.
