Latest news on Grant Shapps (born 14 September 1968), a British politician who served as Secretary of State for Defence from August 2023 to July 2024. He is a member of the Conservative Party and was previously the MP for Welwyn Hatfield prior the 2024 general election.
Grant Shapps started his working life as a photocopier sales rep and founded PrintHouse Corporation, a design, print, website creation and marketing business in London, in 1990. He was appointed Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party in 2005, before becoming Shadow Minister for Housing and Planning in 2007.
Shapps joined the Cabinet as Minister without Portfolio and Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party in 2012, after serving as Minister of State for Housing and Local Government from 2010 to 2012. He was demoted to Minister of State for International Development in 2015, but returned to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Transport in 2019.
Grant Shapps held various ministerial positions in 2022, including Home Secretary, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. He is married with three children and studied at Cassio College, Watford before graduating from Manchester Polytechnic with a business and finance diploma.
