About our Omagh news

Latest news on Omagh, a town located in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is the county town of Tyrone and has a population of approximately 21,000 people. Omagh is situated in the west of Northern Ireland, close to the border with the Republic of Ireland.

Like many towns in Northern Ireland, Omagh has experienced tensions and divisions over the years, particularly during the period of sectarian violence known as the Troubles. During this time, Omagh suffered a number of bombings and paramilitary attacks, with the most devastating being the Omagh bombing in 1998, in which 29 people were killed and hundreds injured.

While the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 helped to bring an end to the Troubles, tensions in Omagh and other parts of Northern Ireland continue to exist, with occasional incidents of sectarian violence and hate crimes reported.
