Latest news on Mick Lynch, a British trade unionist born in 1962 who became General Secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT). Lynch grew up in Paddington and left school at the age of 16, qualifying as an electrician and later moved to work in construction. In 1993, he began working for Eurostar and became active in the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT). Lynch served two terms as assistant general secretary of the RMT and two terms on its executive. In 2020, he was appointed as acting general secretary but stood down after a few months. In May 2021, he was elected as the permanent General Secretary of the RMT.
