Greater London is policed by three main forces, the Metropolitan Police, the City of London Police, and the British Transport Police, along with smaller constabularies for policing parks. London Mayor Sadiq Khan is also the Police and Crime Commissioner for the city. According to the Mayor's Office for Policing & Crime (MOPAC) in Q1 2021, there was a reduction in all crime in London, with the exception of hate crimes and domestic violence. However, the figures for crime in London are not uniform across different types of offenses, with homicides, robbery, and theft increasing while sexual offenses and violence against the person have decreased. Overall crime continues to decrease.
The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime and the Met have revealed that despite a reduction in homicides in 2022, gang-related violence still accounts for a significant proportion of the most serious violence in London, with more than half of all teenage murders in the capital and 50% of shootings over the past three years linked to gangs.
