Count Binface is a satirical political candidate created by British comedian Jon Harvey. Styling himself an 'independent space warrior' and leader of the 'Recyclons' from planet Sigma IX, he wears a bin-shaped helmet and a silver cape. Since 2023 he has stood under the banner of the Count Binface Party, campaigning with the slogan 'Make Your Vote Count'.
In July 2026 Binface announced his candidacy in the Clacton by-election triggered by the resignation of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, after Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats all declined to stand. Weeks earlier he had contested the Makerfield by-election, finishing seventh in a field of fourteen candidates that included Andy Burnham. His election-night interviews at the count drew widespread attention online.
Binface has a long record of challenging senior politicians in their own constituencies. Harvey first stood as Lord Buckethead against Theresa May in Maidenhead in 2017, before contesting Uxbridge and South Ruislip against Boris Johnson at the 2019 general election and again at the 2023 by-election. He took on Rishi Sunak in Richmond and Northallerton at the 2024 general election, and stood in the London mayoral elections of 2021 and 2024, beating Britain First in the latter contest.
His manifestos mix absurdist pledges with pointed political commentary, from reintroducing Ceefax and capping croissant prices to building at least one affordable house and making water company bosses swim in the Thames. Behind the comedy sits a serious message about democratic participation, and his London campaigns raised money for the homelessness charity Shelter.
Binface belongs to a long British tradition of novelty candidates, following in the footsteps of Screaming Lord Sutch and the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. He has also branched into books and broadcasting, publishing the comic manifesto What On Earth? and making television appearances, cementing his status as a fixture of election night coverage.
