About our Pittsburgh Pirates news
Latest news on the Pittsburgh Pirates, a professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and part of the National League’s Central Division. Established in 1882, the Pirates were initially based across the river from Pittsburgh in Allegheny City and didn’t go by the name Pittsburgh Pirates until the 1891 season.
The Pirates won their first World Series title in 1909 and have since added four more Championship wins. Their last World Series appearance and win came in 1979 when they beat the Baltimore Orioles. The team’s colours are black, gold and white.
The Pirates play their home games at the PNC Park, a place they’ve called home for over 20 years. The 38,000 capacity stadium was first opened in 2001 and had been built specifically for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The ballpark is located next to the Allegheny river and looks out onto a view of downtown Pittsburgh.
