Founded in 1878, Ipswich Town have won a single league championship in their history in 1962, their first season in England's top flight. Ipswich have also won the FA Cup and UEFA Cup and remain unbeaten at home in European competitions.
Despite being one of the original Premier League sides, Ipswich have spent the majority of the past three decades playing in the second division. Their first relegation from the Premier League came in 1995, but under the guidance of manager George Burley they were able to return to the top in the year 2000.
In their first season back in the Premier League Ipswich were able to secure a European spot after finishing fifth ahead of well-established sides such as Chelsea and Newcastle United. However, in the following season Ipswich were unable to build on their successful return to the top division and were relegated back to the Football League First Division.
Ipswich would then spend the next 22 years away from the Premier League, before securing their return after two back to back promotions under manager Kieran McKenna. In their successful Championship promotion season, Ipswich secured one of the automatic promotion spots after finishing second to Leicester City.
