    About our Michael Clarke news

Latest news on Michael Clarke, former Australian cricket captain, batter and 2015 Cricket World Cup winning skipper. Recap his international career, records, controversies and post-retirement life.

Michael Clarke is one of Australia's most successful cricket captains. Born in 1981 in Liverpool, New South Wales, he made his international debut in 2003 and went on to lead Australia in 47 Tests, 74 ODIs, and 18 T20Is. A right-handed middle-order batter known for his elegant stroke-play, Clarke scored over 8,600 Test runs at an average of 49.10, including 28 centuries. He also took 31 Test wickets with his left-arm orthodox spin.

Clarke's captaincy tenure was marked by highs and lows. He led Australia to a 5-0 whitewash of England in the 2013-14 Ashes and to victory in the 2015 Cricket World Cup on home soil. However, he also oversaw a 4-0 Test series defeat in India in 2013 and a 3-2 Ashes loss in England in 2015. His leadership style sometimes attracted criticism from former teammates, who described the team atmosphere as "toxic" under Clarke.

Off the field, Clarke's personal life often made headlines. His engagement to model Lara Bingle ended in 2010. He later married Kyly Boldy in 2012; they divorced in 2019. In 2023, Clarke was involved in a public altercation with his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough and her brother-in-law, TV host Karl Stefanovic, which was caught on video. Clarke was accused of cheating on Yarbrough.

Since retiring from international cricket after the 2015 Ashes, Clarke has worked as a cricket commentator and radio host. In 2016, he published an autobiography titled My Story. Health issues have also been a concern - he revealed in 2019 that he has had multiple skin cancers removed.

Despite the controversies, Clarke's cricketing achievements ensure his place among Australia's modern greats. He won the Allan Border Medal, Australian cricket's highest individual honour, four times. In 2020, he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to cricket and the community.
