About our HIMARS news

Latest news on the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), a U.S. multiple rocket launcher mounted on a wheeled chassis. HIMARS is capable of firing the entire family of surface-to-surface munitions currently deployed by the U.S. Army, including the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). HIMARS can launch 6 rockets in 60 seconds, or 1 GMLRS pod in 20 seconds. It has a maximum range of 70 kilometers.

HIMARS is smaller and lighter than previous multiple rocket launchers, and can be transported by a variety of military vehicles, including the C-130 Hercules transport plane. HIMARS can be used in direct fire mode, or in indirect fire mode using its on-board mapping system and Global Positioning System (GPS) to launch rockets at targets that are out of line of sight.

HIMARS entered service with the U.S. Army in 2005, and has been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2007, HIMARS was used in combat for the first time, firing rockets at Taliban targets in Afghanistan. In 2022, the US supplied Ukraine with several HIMARS systems in a bid to assist in the country's defence following Russia's invasion.
