About our US Supreme Court news
Latest news on the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), the highest court in the federal judiciary system of the United States. It has the authority to hear appeals of federal and state court cases that involve federal law and has original jurisdiction over certain cases, such as those involving ambassadors and other public officials. The Supreme Court also has the power of judicial review, which allows it to determine the constitutionality of laws and executive actions. It consists of the chief justice of the United States and eight associate justices, who are appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate and serve for life. The court convenes in the Supreme Court Building in Washington D.C. and each justice has one vote in deciding cases. The chief justice or, in their absence, the most senior justice in the majority, assigns the task of writing the opinion of the court. The Supreme Court is able to rule on cases with political implications, but it does not have the power to decide non-justiciable political questions.
