New Mexico is considered a swing state, but has voted for the Democratic Party in the last several elections. In the federal government, New Mexico is represented by two U.S. Senators and three U.S. Representatives. Both Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján are Democrats. Of the three Representatives, all are Democrats. New Mexico has a Democrat governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, who was reelected in 2022. The state legislature is also controlled by the Democrats, who have majorities in both chambers.
