About our Novak Djokovic news
Latest news on Novak Djokovic (Novak Đoković), the Serbian tennis star, covering ATP Tour matches, Grand Slam titles, Australian Open, Wimbledon, Roland Garros, US Open, Olympic gold, Davis Cup, records and rankings.
Born in Belgrade on 22 May 1987, Djokovic is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Nicknamed Nole or Djoko, he has won more Grand Slam men's singles titles than any other player and spent more weeks at world No. 1 than anyone in the sport's history. His game is built on flexibility, elite return of serve, relentless baseline defence and a world-class backhand.
Djokovic has often stirred debate. His vaccination stance led to his 2022 deportation from Australia, and his outspoken views have divided opinion. Supporters point to his discipline, diet and mental strength. Fitness, longevity and the challenge of younger stars such as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are constant talking points.
His story is closely tied to Serbia. Djokovic grew up in difficult times, practising in an empty swimming pool during the 1999 bombing of Belgrade. He helped Serbia win the Davis Cup in 2010. Through the Novak Djokovic Foundation he supports early childhood education.
His first Grand Slam title came at the 2008 Australian Open. Together with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal he formed the "Big Three", whose rivalry defined a golden era. He completed the Career Golden Slam by winning Olympic gold at Paris 2024 and has won each of the four majors multiple times.
