About our RFL Championship news

Latest news on the RFL Championship, a professional rugby league competition that consists of 21 teams from Britain and France. The RFL Championship is a second-tier division that sits below the Super League.

The Championship was founded in 2003 after a partial restructure of the British rugby league system. In 2025 it was announced that the Championship would be merging with League One to create a single league of 21 teams. This was confirmed alongside plans to expand the Super League from 12 to 14 teams.
