About our IPSO news

Latest news on the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is a regulatory body for the newspaper and magazine industry in the United Kingdom. It was set up in 2014 in response to the Leveson Inquiry, which had been set up to investigate the culture, practices and ethics of the British press.

IPSO is funded by the industry, and its job is to uphold the Editors' Code of Practice, which sets out the rules that the press must follow. This includes rules on accuracy, privacy, harassment, intrusion into grief and shock, and children. If a member of the public believes that a newspaper or magazine has breached the Code, they can make a complaint to IPSO.

If IPSO finds that a complaint is justified, it can order the publication to print a correction or an apology, and in some cases it can impose a fine. IPSO is not affiliated with any political party, and it is independent of both the government and the press.
