    About our K-pop news

Latest news on K-pop, covering comebacks, debuts, world tours, charts, idol groups, agencies, fandom culture, and the global rise of Korean pop music.

K-pop, or Korean pop music, has grown from a domestic industry into a global cultural phenomenon worth billions. Groups such as BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, Seventeen and Twice have topped charts worldwide, headlined stadium tours and collected major international awards. The industry is anchored by powerhouse agencies including HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment.

The genre is now in its so-called fifth generation, with new groups debuting at a rapid pace alongside high-profile returns from established acts. BTS resumed full-group activities after completing South Korea's mandatory military service, while veterans such as BIGBANG and EXO have marked landmark anniversaries and comebacks. The animated hit 'KPop Demon Hunters' brought the genre further mainstream recognition, with its song 'Golden' winning an Academy Award.

K-pop also faces well-documented challenges and controversies. The intensive trainee system has drawn scrutiny over long contracts, punishing schedules and pressures on young performers' mental health. Contract disputes between artists and agencies periodically make headlines, alongside debates over the industry's treatment of idols and its increasingly international identity.

At the heart of K-pop are its famously devoted fandoms, from BTS's ARMY to BLACKPINK's Blinks. Fans organise streaming campaigns, charity drives and elaborate birthday celebrations, and collect physical albums, photocards and lightsticks. This participatory culture has made K-pop fandom a powerful force in music, marketing and even social causes.

Modern K-pop traces its roots to the early 1990s, when Seo Taiji and Boys fused Korean lyrics with hip-hop and dance music. The founding of major agencies in the mid-1990s created the idol training model that shaped groups from H.O.T. and Girls' Generation onwards. Psy's 'Gangnam Style' in 2012 and BTS's later breakthrough turned K-pop into a pillar of the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, and a key source of South Korean soft power.

Our NewsNow feed on K-pop is updated around the clock with headlines from trusted sources worldwide. Whether you follow comebacks, tours, debuts or industry news, this feed keeps you informed on everything happening in Korean pop music.
