Latest news on the 77th Cannes Film Festival 2024, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, held annually in Cannes, France, typically in May. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
The top award at the festival is the Palme d'Or, or Golden Palm, which is awarded to the director of the best feature film of the official competition. There are other awards as well, such as the Grand Prix (Grand Prize), which is considered the second most prestigious award, and the Prix du Jury (Jury Prize), which is considered the third most prestigious.
Other categories include the Un Certain Regard, which focuses on films with unusual themes or storytelling techniques, and the Cinéfondation, which highlights student films. The festival also hosts a market, known as the Marché du Film, where film buyers and sellers meet.
