Vermont is considered a blue state. In the federal government, Vermont is represented by two U.S. Senators and one U.S. Representative. One Senator, Peter Welch, is a Democrat and the other, Bernie Sanders, is an independent. The House Representative is also a Democrat. Vermont has a Republican governor, Phillip Scott, who was reelected in 2022. The state legislature is also controlled by the Democrats, who have majorities in both chambers.
