Colum Eastwood is a Northern Irish politician who has been the leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) since 2015. Born on April 30, 1983, in Derry, Northern Ireland, Eastwood has been a prominent figure in Northern Irish politics.
He began his political career as a member of the Derry City Council, where he was elected in 2005. In 2011, he was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Foyle, representing the SDLP. Eastwood became the youngest ever Mayor of Derry in 2010 at the age of 27.
In 2015, Eastwood succeeded Alasdair McDonnell as the leader of the SDLP. Under his leadership, the party has focused on issues such as social justice, economic development, and reconciliation in Northern Ireland. He has been an advocate for maintaining strong ties with the European Union and has been vocal about the implications of Brexit on Northern Ireland.
