About our PPE Medpro news

Latest news on PPE Medpro, a company linked to Conservative peer Michelle Mone. The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has accused PPE Medpro of supplying defective gowns to the NHS. The DHSC paid PPE Medpro £122m for 25 million sterile surgical gowns under a June 2020 contract. However, the DHSC alleges that the gowns were not sterile, their labelling was "invalid" and "improper", and "cannot be used within the NHS for any purpose". The DHSC is suing PPE Medpro for the return of the full £122m, plus an additional £11.6m for storing and disposing of the gowns and interest. Mone has denied involvement in the company and has not declared PPE Medpro on her Lords register of interests.

An investigation by The Guardian suggested Conservative peer Michelle Mone and her children secretly received £29m from the profits of PPE Medpro, while Mone's support helped PPE Medpro secure government contracts worth more than £200m during the pandemic. According to documents seen by The Guardian, tens of millions of pounds of PPE Medpro's profits were transferred to an offshore trust that Mone and her children were the beneficiaries of. Mone's husband, financier Douglas Barrowman, was paid at least £65m in profits from PPE Medpro, which he distributed through a series of offshore accounts, trusts and companies.
