About our Scottish Parliament news

Latest news on the Scottish Parliament, the devolved, unicameral legislature of Scotland, commonly referred to as Holyrood.

The Scottish Parliament is a democratically elected body comprising 129 members known as Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), elected for five-year terms.

Following a referendum in 1997, in which the Scottish electorate voted for devolution, the establishment of a devolved Scottish Parliament was legislated by the Scotland Act 1998, granting the Scottish Parliament power to legislate in all areas not explicitly reserved to Westminster.
