About our Tom Tugendhat news

Latest news on the Tom Tugendhat, a British Conservative Party politician that has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tonbridge and Malling since 2015.

Tugendhat was born in 1975 and was educated at the University of Birmingham, where he studied History and Politics. He later attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Tugendhat served in the British Army for ten years, seeing active service in Iraq and Afghanistan. He left the Army in 2006, and later worked as a management consultant.

In 2010, Tugendhat was selected as the Conservative Party candidate for the marginal seat of Tonbridge and Malling. He was elected as MP in the 2015 general election.

On 7 July 2022, Tugendhat became the first Tory MP to announce that he would stand as a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party, in a bid to take over as PM from the departing Boris Johnson. His leadership bid was not successful, with Liz Truss succeeding Boris Johnson as PM.
