Prior to that, she served as Deputy Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care (September-October 2022), and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (2019-2022). As the first woman to hold the title of Deputy Prime Minister, Coffey has represented Suffolk Coastal as an MP since 2010. She held roles under Prime Ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson and supported Liz Truss's bid to become Conservative leader. After Truss's appointment as Prime Minister, Coffey was made Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and Deputy Prime Minister. She was later appointed by Rishi Sunak as the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
