About our Suella Braverman news

Latest news on Suella Braverman, a British politician and the twice former Secretary of State who was sacked by two different Prime Ministers. She first held the Cabinet role under Liz Truss in 2022. After less than a month in charge, she departed her position after she breached Ministerial Code by sharing classified documents via her personal email address.

Only six days after her departure, Braverman was reappointed as Home Secretary by the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Her second stint in this role lasted for just over a year before she was sacked in a Cabinet reshuffle. Her dismissal came shortly after she had written an article in The Times where she criticised the Met Police, specifically for being too lenient towards pro-Palestinian protesters. She described the protesters as “pro-Palestinian mobs” and “hate marchers”. This criticism led to her sacking on 13 November 2023 as part of a cabinet reshuffle ahead of a general election expected the following year.

In the reshuffle triggered by Braverman's firing, Rishi Sunak appointed James Cleverly as the new Home Secretary. Cleverly had previously been serving as the Foreign Secretary.
