    About our Energy Crisis news

Latest news on the UK energy crisis, in which gas and electricity supply cuts have led to sharp price rises, impacting energy bills, and food and drink supplies.

The UK energy crisis emerged in 2021, as wholesale gas prices soared, threatening millions of consumers with sharply rising and possibly unaffordable bills, as well as sending energy companies bust.

There was an increase in demand for oil and gas as economies around the world came out of Covid lockdown. Supply did not generally keep pace with the higher demand for various reasons. Increased gas prices fed through to increased electricity prices.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 caused oil and gas prices to jump due to concerns about disruption to supply.
