Latest news on Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian ice hockey player who serves as captain of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is widely considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time and has won numerous awards and accolades, including the Hart Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player, the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer, and the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player as voted by his peers. Ovechkin was drafted first overall by the Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has been with the team throughout his entire NHL career. In December 2022 he became the third player in NHL history to reach 800 career goals. Ovechkin has also represented Russia in international play, winning the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and multiple IIHF World Championships.
