About our England Rugby Union news

Latest news on England rugby union, including updates on both the men's and women's national teams, match reports, injury news, and upcoming matches.

The England men's national rugby union team has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century, when the English rugby team played their first official test match against Scotland. The men's team quickly established themselves as a dominant force. Since the inception of the Home Nations Championship in 1883, now the Six Nations Championship, the England men's team have won the tournament outright 29 times, and are the only northern hemisphere men's team to win the Rugby World Cup, having defeated Australia in a memorable final in 2003 thanks to an iconic Jonny Wilkinson drop goal in extra time.

In parallel, the England women's national rugby union team was officially created in 1987, coinciding with the inaugural Women's Rugby World Cup. Commonly known as the Red Roses, the women's national team has won the Women's Six Nations Championship a total of 19 out of 28 occasions, and have won the the Women's Rugby World Cup twice, in 1994 and 2014.
