About our Tamworth By-Election news
Latest news on the Tamworth by-election, a parliamentary election that took place on 19 October 2023 to fill the vacant seat of Tamworth in the House of Commons. Labour's Sarah Edwards won the seat by a majority vote of 1,316 with a swing of 23.9%, the second-biggest from Conservative to Labour since the 1945 election.
The seat was previously held by Chris Pincher, a Conservative MP who resigned in September 2023 after losing his appeal against a suspension for drunkenly groping two men. He had quit the government in June 2022, and was involved in a scandal that contributed to the resignation of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The Tamworth by-election is one of two by-elections that took place on the same day, along with the Mid Bedfordshire by-election in which former culture secretary Nadine Dorries' seat was contested. Alistair Strathern of the Labour Party won the vacant seat.
