Jones made his Broadway debut in 1957 and quickly became a prominent stage actor, with standout roles in productions such as Othello and King Lear. His work in theatre earned him numerous accolades, including multiple Tony Awards.

Jones gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the iconic voice of Darth Vader, starting with A New Hope in 1977. He was also known for his role as Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King (1994).

Beyond his voice work, James Earl Jones appeared in a variety of films, including Dr. Strangelove (1964), Coming to America (1988), Field of Dreams (1989), and The Hunt for Red October (1990). He earned an honorary Academy Award in 2011, adding to a career that also includes multiple Emmy and Grammy wins, making him one of the few performers to have achieved EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) status.
