Latest news on Wirecard AG, a German payment processor and financial services provider that announced the missing of €1.9 billion in cash in June 2020, leading to the company filing for insolvency. Several executives, including the former CEO and COO, have been arrested or implicated in criminal proceedings. The company had been at the centre of an international financial scandal, with allegations of accounting malpractices and investigations by the Financial Times. The company's main business unit was sold to Santander Bank, and other assets were previously sold at undisclosed prices. In March 2022, former CEO Markus Braun was charged with fraud, breach of trust, and accounting manipulation, and could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty on all charges.
